How to Protect a Web Page (Easy Security Guide) | Antivirus

Why is the Security of a Web Page Important?

Whether you build a website, be it professional or personal, making sure it's protected is very important for a number of reasons. The main ones are:

  • Prevent malware (virus) from uploading to your website
  • Prevent phishing emails from being sent from your website
  • Emphasize to your visitors that your website is safe
  • Get a better ranking in search engine lists, like Google
  • Protect your business against hacker attacks and crucial data loss

What Happens if a Website is Not Protected?

If your website is not protected, hackers will take note of it and target it, exploiting any weaknesses.

These types of criminals have a wide range of tools at their disposal, but the main dangers are:

  • Attack Man In The Middle (MITM) attack or an intermediary: the one by which you have access to sensitive data exchanged between your website and the user's browser.
  • Malware uploads: A virus or malware is uploaded to your website through vulnerabilities in the code.

How Can You Protect Your Website?

There are two main ways to protect your website:

  • Switch to an HTTPS security certificate
  • Use a security seal ( Site Seal ) on your website with malware detection

HTTPS Security (SSL Certificate)

The most basic way to protect your website is to switch to HTTPS hosting. This requires an SSL certificate.

Our shared hosting plans include a free SSL certificate.

Typically web pages are hosted on HTTP (check it in your browser). The problem with HTTP is that it is not secure. Hackers can 'listen in' on any data that is exchanged between the visitor's browser and your website.

That data could be genuinely sensitive, like the details and passwords of a credit card or the login credentials of a website.

With HTTPS, a protected and encrypted connection is established between the browser and the website so that no data exchanged between the two can be intercepted.

However, HTTPS is not only good for security reasons. Google has made it clear that HTTPS is a ranking factor in its algorithm.

In other words: Google favors those websites that use HTTPS.

If you want to switch to HTTPS, you will need an SSL Certificate. They are inexpensive and very easy to install. You will have our technical support team on hand to help you with this.

Security Seal on Your Website

A Security Seal ( Site Seal ) is a security feature that monitors your website for malware (for example, viruses loaded by hackers).

It's like having an antivirus on your website. If you agree that you should not access the Internet without a good antivirus program, then why expose your website to potential threats?

This function monitors your files and if it detects any type of malware, it notifies you so that you can eliminate it.

You can see an example of a website security seal here.

Depending on the seal's service level, it may also remove other malicious files for extra security and peace of mind.
