10 Security Tips Need to Be Followed to Protect Our Social Media

In this article, we talked about security risks in social networks. The Internet is the perfect breeding ground for thousands of hackers who attack under anonymity and take advantage of our lack of protection.

To avoid risks there is nothing better than having common sense and acting preventively. If an attack catches you off guard, it will be easier for you to fight and stop it. So here we leave you with 10 safety tips on social networks:

1) Use strong passwords.

It is the most repeated of our advice but it is a truth like a temple. Forget about names, birthday, or anniversary dates. Create a unique password, of at least eight characters, combining uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and special characters (asterisk, slash, ...). This is called a strong password and it is the one that best protects you.

2) Do not save your passwords in the browser.

It is useless to have a strong password if your computer has them saved automatically. It is very convenient but anyone who hacks your computer or if it is stolen could access them and all your information and contacts.

3) Be wary of sites that don't start with https.

Implementing an SSL certificate has its advantages and not its disadvantages. If you are on a website whose URL does not include the security certificate, be more careful, the risk is greater.

4) Do you share a computer?

Use private sessions and do not forget to log out of all your social networks to prevent someone from accessing your personal data.

5) Please read before authorizing.

Surely on more than one occasion Facebook, Instagram, or any social network that you have installed on your mobile has requested permissions from an app associated with these networks before taking any type of action. Banish the bad habit of accepting without reading and your security in social networks will be more reliable. There are malicious apps that, by obtaining these permissions from your main networks, steal your information.

6) Set your privacy.

As in the previous point of these social media safety tips, it is likely that you have not worried much about your privacy. Do it! It will only take you five minutes to access the settings and see how exposed your data is. Review and update based on your needs or preferences. And above all, if you really do not want something to be known, do not hang it because there is no digital medium that is insurmountable.

7) Think and then post.

Social media offers anonymity but also exposure to your personal and private life. Everything you post will be recorded on the Internet and may one day be public.

8) Be careful with the location and the GPS.

Your activity leaves a trace on the network and it is not very difficult to track where you have been or what you have done just by reading some comments or seeing your images. Especially if you also use the localization options. For example, are you sure to publish your location every minute? You could be alerting potential thieves that you are not home.

9) Be careful with the links!

Thousands of links circulate on social networks a day that hide malware. Before clicking, look at the link and who sent it to you. Before any suspicion, better not open it.

10) Use advanced antivirus program.

Before your data being caught by any wrong hand you should get an advanced antivirus program installed in your device to prevent any vulnerability happening. Though using advanced security protection does not provide you any guarantee of miscarriage but it can prevent in maximum possible way from internet threat. Our suggestion will be to use total security software which goes beyond malware protection and provides extremely advanced protection against spyware, phishing attacks, spam, dangerous applications, suspicious websites & other internet threats.
